Licking County is seeking a Utility Systems Technician to assist with the daily operation and maintenance of wastewater collection, water distribution, and treatment systems. This role is critical in ensuring the consistent delivery of essential public services and maintaining infrastructure efficiency and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and operate water/wastewater treatment equipment and systems
- Replenish chemical supplies and respond to treatment/distribution issues
- Assist with routine maintenance on mechanical systems and vehicles
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on utility infrastructure
- Collect water/wastewater samples for lab analysis
- Respond to service calls and customer inquiries
- Inspect and log consumer water meter readings
- Perform facility housekeeping and general grounds maintenance
- Support safety procedures and comply with PERRP standards
- Assist with Ohio Utilities Protection Service (OUPS) line locates
- Participate in ongoing training and stay updated on operational practices
Minimum Qualifications:
- One-year certificate from a college or technical school, or 1–2 years of relevant experience/training
- Valid Ohio Driver’s License
- Physically able to perform demanding tasks and work in hazardous environments
Additional Qualifications (Preferred):
- Ohio EPA Class I Water and/or Class I Wastewater Certificates
- Basic knowledge of water/wastewater testing
- Familiarity with plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and septic systems
- Ability to operate small equipment (e.g., skid steer, backhoe, zero-turn mower)
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work independently or with a team
- Customer-friendly, professional demeanor
