Position Description
The Assistant County Veteran Service Officer supports the Lead Service Officer in providing services to veterans and their dependents at the Pataskala office. This role involves direct interaction with clients, coordination of Department of Veterans Affairs documentation, community outreach, and general office support.
Key Duties:
- Assist with daily operations and VA benefit processing
- Greet and check in clients, manage phone and walk-in inquiries
- Prepare VA documentation and coordinate with external agencies
- Maintain office cleanliness, track supplies and manage incoming/outgoing mail
- Provide referrals and public information to veterans and dependents
- Represent the office at veteran-focused functions, parades, and community events (including evenings/weekends)
- Become an Accredited County Veteran Service Officer via ODVS and national organizations after training
Minimum Qualifications
- Veteran Status: Must be a former member of the U.S. Armed Forces with active-duty service and an honorable discharge (required by ORC 5901.01)
- Education: High school diploma or GED
- Experience: 1–3 years of relevant administrative experience preferred
- Licensing: Valid Ohio driver’s license (required for travel)
- Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
