Position Description:
The Environmental Educator and Outreach Specialist will serve as an AmeriCorps member, supporting environmental education, outreach, and conservation programming for Licking County Soil & Water. This includes school and community education, stormwater permit outreach, Stream Team data work, major events like River Round Up and the Hartford Fair, and collaborative service with other AmeriCorps members.
This is a full-time, one-year national service term (September 8, 2025 – August 31, 2026) requiring a minimum of 1,700 hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support youth and community education initiatives
- Develop and lead classroom and event-based environmental programs
- Assist in training Stream Team members on data collection and mapping
- Contribute to stormwater outreach and OEPA compliance documentation
- Represent the agency at outreach events and prepare displays
- Collaborate on large-scale events like the tree sale and River Round Up
- Create outreach content for newsletters, brochures, and social media
- Participate in professional development, trainings, and AmeriCorps activities
- Submit timely reports and AmeriCorps documentation
Minimum Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident
- Minimum age: 17
- High school diploma or GED
- Pass background checks, drug screening, and driving record check
- Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle
Preferred:
- Experience working with K-12 youth
- Public speaking or event outreach skills
- Understanding of water quality and environmental issues
- Microsoft Office & Google Suite proficiency
- Ability to lift 40 lbs and hike up to 2 miles on uneven terrain

Compensation:
- Biweekly living stipend of $884 or $915 (totaling up to $22,984 or $23,790 before tax)
- Education Award of up to $7,395 upon successful service completion

- Training stipend up to $250 (with 170 hours of service dedicated to professional development)
- Student loan forbearance and interest forgiveness eligibility
