Position Description:

The Laborer position with Canadian County District #3 involves performing a variety of manual labor tasks to support road maintenance, construction, and other public works projects. The role requires physical stamina, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions. The department seeks motivated individuals eager to learn and grow in the position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at assigned work sites
  • Work a minimum of 40 hours per week, including emergency on-call duty as needed
  • Perform general labor duties as assigned
  • Transport materials and equipment as required
  • Assist equipment operators with heavy machinery
  • Guide truck drivers on dumping logistics
  • Participate in road maintenance activities such as patching, paving, mowing, debris clearing
  • Assist with installation and maintenance of culverts (tinhorns) and county road signs
  • Engage in training and skill development

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Less than a high school diploma accepted
  • OR equivalent education with up to one month of related work experience
  • Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License
  • Must be insurable under the County’s vehicle insurance policy

  • Ability to safely operate tools and equipment
  • Commitment to learning and growth in the department
  • Willingness to work outdoors under varying weather and terrain conditions

Required Certifications:

  • Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License

Skills:

  • Language Skills: Ability to read and understand basic instructions
  • Math Skills: Ability to perform simple arithmetic and understand measurements
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense in routine situations

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent physical activity including standing, walking, lifting (up to 100 lbs.), climbing, bending, stooping, crawling
  • Working in uneven terrain and roadside ditches
  • Exposure to various weather elements
  • Vision requirements include close, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment

Work Environment:

  • Outdoor work with exposure to weather, dust, fumes, and vibration
  • Potential exposure to mechanical parts and hazardous conditions
  • Loud and fast-paced environment
