Position Description:

The Hazmat Team Coordinator is responsible for overseeing hazardous materials response operations across Licking County. This role provides technical expertise during incidents, manages team equipment and training records, liaises with public and media, and ensures team compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and local emergency planning protocols. The coordinator also participates in budget administration and emergency preparedness initiatives. The role requires 24/7 response availability and interaction with local governments and emergency responders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-scene HazMat expertise and resource coordination during emergencies
  • Plan and conduct local Haz-Mat training and compliance exercises
  • Maintain team equipment, inventory, and training records
  • Assist political subdivisions in Haz-Mat planning and reporting
  • Act as Public Information Officer when needed
  • Develop and manage the team’s annual budget and procurement
  • Conduct compliance site visits in accordance with SERC requirements
  • Submit cost documentation for HazMat response
  • Ensure team meets training and safety standards (OSHA, NFPA, NIMS, etc.)
  • Use Cameo Suite (ALOHA, CAMEO, MARPLOT) for emergency planning
  • Prepare monthly reports for EMA Deputy Director
  • Participate in continuing education, seminars, and safety training

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • 3–5 years of related experience, including 5 years in emergency services
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience considered

Additional Qualifications (Agency/Dept.):

  • Strong knowledge of HazMat protocols, emergency operations, and safety standards
  • Fire Officer experience; experience managing diverse teams
  • Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and emergency management software

Required Certifications:

  • Hazardous Materials/WMD Technician
  • Ohio Firefighter Level II
  • NIMS: 300, 400; IS-100, 200, 700, 800
  • ICS-950 All-Hazard Incident Commander (within 1 year)
  • Ohio HazMat Officer/Safety Officer (within 1 year)
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License
